Silas Deane Middle School is a member of
Wethersfield Public
Schools, located in Connecticut. The facility needed a basic
Media Retrieval system within a reasonable budget. Their
Dealer, Integrated Systems & Services, met this need by
installing an AMX NI-3000 at the Head End and using Phoenix
to allow scheduling and control using the web client. This
allowed the campus to forego the purchase of Television
Managers for every room on campus. The drawback is that the
display devices must be manually tuned to the channel onto
which the controlled source is being modulated, and there
are no handheld remote controls for control of Head End
devices. Instead, the staff and faculty relies solely on the
Phoenix32 web client for control via their Microsoft Windows
and Apple Macintosh computers. This solution is perfect for
smaller installations that require Head End device control
without whole-campus automation. Also, Silas Dean Middle
School is now well positioned for virtually unlimited
expansion should they choose to grow their system in years
to come, including the ability to add digital file servers
if they so choose.
The installation at Silas Deane was significant because it
represented the first Phoenix-controlled facility that did not previously
install Synergy32, the predecessor to Phoenix. Until this install, Phoenix had
been utilized only by campuses that had already been using Synergy for many
years. The installation at Silas Deane Middle School further validates that
Phoenix is the right solution for any campus that requires Media Retrieval
and/or Campus Automation capabilities, not just those facilities that are
already automated via Synergy. Phoenix works well in a broad spectrum of
environments, from the high-end demands of large universities down to the basic
Media Retrieval needs of smaller campuses.
Conclusion
Realm Control Corp. would like to thank George Manolakis of Integrated

Retrieval needs of Silas Deane Middle School.
