Westfield Academy and Central School

Synopsis

............................................................................................................................................

Westfield Academy and Central School is located in western New York state, near the shores of beautiful Lake Erie.  The facility is a K-12 school that serves the town of Westfield and the outlying communities.  Synergy was installed at Westfield Academy years ago as a pilot project, and it continued to serve the Media Retrieval needs of about 90 rooms on campus for approximately a decade.  Rich Olson of Univisions Crimson Group provided ongoing maintenance throughout the life of the system.  When funding became available to upgrade to Phoenix, Westfield Academy decided to move on it.  In June of 2006 they upgraded their system from Synergy to Phoenix.

A Scalable Solution

The technical staff at Westfield Academy was not just looking for a new system to drive their analog VCRs and DVD players.  They were also interested in a solution that would provide a foundation for digital media distribution and control.  Phase I was to upgrade to Phoenix and set the stage for the near-future addition of digital content distribution capabilities.

MediaEdge Add-On, August 2006

Digital content distribution and control was added to their system just prior to the 2006-2007 school year via the Canopus MediaEdge Videocasting system. Three MESTB2 decoder units were installed.  This allowed them to stream MPG1, MPG2, and MPG4 content to classrooms alongside their analog media devices.  In conjunction with the MediaEdge add-on, they also replaced all of their decks with Sony SLV-D370 DVD/VCR combo units.

Conclusion

Realm Control Corp. would like to thank Westfield Academy for choosing Phoenix as their Media Retrieval and Campus Automation solution.  Special thanks go out to Lynn Manzella, Melissa Zastrow, and Cindy Ouderkirk.  Also, installation assistance provided by Pat Johnston of BOCES was greatly appreciated.
