Two generations of the Phoenix32 web interface have
been released. The earlier version, which serves up from the control system, is
known as "G1" (Generation 1). G1 requires the Java Virtual Machine in order to
create a virtual touch panel within the browser. G1 is still in
use at some facilities today. However, sluggish performance and some usability
issues have made G1 less desirable than its successor, XGen (neXt Generation).
XGen serves up from the Phoenix32 Server PC, or from another dedicated web
server PC, which makes for great performance and a rich user interface
experience overall. XGen has been validated in the following
